How do I exchange a version 1 inRide sensor?

Kinetic has updated the inRide sensor pod firmware with the introduction of the new Kinetic Fit app and Kinetic Smart Trainers in 2016. It’s important that riders using the inRide sensor have the most updated firmware. Kinetic is offering free upgraded version 2 sensors* to anyone who has a version 1 sensor pod. Here is how to identify your sensor firmware.

NOTE: If you have a Kinetic Road Machine | Smart or Rock and Roll | Smart trainer OR you purchased your inRide sensor in the last year you already have a v.2 sensor and you can ignore this article. If you are having sensor pairing issues with your Smart trainer go to this LINK. and try the steps to get sensor paired again (it's usually a dead battery or improper BLE connection).

Identifying older V.1 sensors

To determine what type of sensor you have follow these steps:,

  1. Pair your inRide sensor with the Kinetic Fit app. We have an (iOS) and (Android) version. If your sensor pairs with the Fit app, you're good to go. You have a version 2 inRide sensor.
  2. If your sensor won't pair with the Fit app try the following steps to ensure there is not a pairing issue:
  3. Install a new CR2032 battery to eliminate that variable.
  4. Hard quit the Fit app (varies by device).
  5. In your device settings, turn off Bluetooth.
  6. Power off your phone/device.
  7. Pull battery from the inRide sensor and flip it.
  8. While your sensor battery is flipped, power up your phone/device, turn on bluetooth again in settings, open the Fit app, and open the SENSORS screen.
  9. Flip the battery back to positive side up (a magnet helps with removal or a small screwdriver or long fingernail) in the sensor and reinstall battery cap.

If you've completed the steps above and still have not successfully paired the inRide sensor with the Fit app, you likely have a v.1 sensor and should gently pry it off the back of your trainer yoke bracket.

When you have the inRide sensor removed, look at the back to determine without a doubt what type of sensor you have. If you see the words "Powered by Wahoo" on the top of the back you have a v.1 sensor. Follow the directions below and send it in for the upgrade.

Is it version 1 or 2?

Version 1 sensors have "Powered by Wahoo" printed on the back.

After Verifying that you have a 1.0 inRide Pod please fill out the attached PDF form, print it and include it with your returned pod.

NOTE: To remove the inRide sensor, we recommend using a standard (flat/blade) screwdriver to provide leverage underneath the inRide sensor to detach it from the resistance unit. Please be sure to remove the double-sided tape and adhesive entirely from the back of the inRide sensor before sending it in for the upgrade. (We will add new double-sided tape back to the inRide sensor when we process your upgrade.)
